New Build Family House by the Sea
Involvement in this project spanned five years, working in close conjunction with both the client and architects.
The brief was to create a unique and contemporary coastal interior that also felt welcoming and practical for busy family life. One of the key challenges was to create a fluid transition between the property’s interior and outdoor spaces and to respond seamlessly to the bold architectural form of the building.
The radial shape and curved walls of many rooms suggested a calm, coherent, and elegant use of natural materials and colours. Interest and depth come from different textures, shades, and finishes, with subtle reference to the local landscape and coastline to root the house in its stunning setting. Each finish enhances the transition between interior spaces, while creating a distinct atmosphere in each room.
I developed all aspects of the project, from lighting to joinery to floor and wall finishes. Working closely with specialist joinery firms, I created bespoke designs for the oak kitchen, boot room, media room, and panelled principal bedroom and dressing room. Along with design and specification for multiple bathrooms and utility spaces, the project reflects immense attention to detail, from the very earliest concept through to occupation.
Supply and installation of a full package of loose furniture, soft furnishings, and decorative lighting complete an interior of comfortable but functional sophistication.
